Crafting with nature – Fall Leaf placemats

It’s that time of year again!!  What to do with all those beautiful fall leaves the kids collect?  Make a placemat!img_9600

Materials needed:

Fall leaves

Grass or seed heads

Flower petals

Contact paper

Go on a nature walk.  Remember to bring a bag to collect treasures in!

Cut out two pieces of contact paper to the desired size of the placemat.  Have the kids sort leaves so they have an idea of which ones they will use.  Peel off the  protective paper and lay the contact paper down sticky side up.  Have the kids arange the leaves and any grasses or flowers they may have found, pretty side up.

Peel the second piece of paper.  Have someone hold one side of the paper up, and slowly smooth the paper on from one side to the other.  Cut overhanging edges.  Now each member of the family has a personalized fall leaf placemat!
